Showers and Brushing Teeth

Since I have become a mom, I have become very grateful for things I haven't always been. Two such examples are the title. I use to hate taking showers, don't get me wrong I did take showers but more out of a moral obligation for those I associated with than for actual enjoyment. I think I disliked showering so much because it felt like it took a long time and was pointless, and I missed stuff. Anyway, there are just things that I am now even more grateful for, and here are some of them.

  1. Gaupo: I wasn't ever not grateful for him, but since we have had Little One he has become my Sanity Savor. He always helps with Little One especially when he can tell I am having a rough time of it. He helps cook dinner, almost always. We use to do that just for fun, but now it is a totally enjoyable moment because we are together and sometimes I just can't get dinner pulled together without him. Also, Gaupo is really good about waiting for me to calm down. I have a tenancy to over-react and blow things way out of proportion, and he just listens and waits. Then when I am all done he says 'hummm', and then listens while I talk myself back to the facts. If I can't get back to the facts he lovingly helps me see things as they really are. I sure married a great guy.
  2. My time: I have never been one to do things on my own, and I am still not. One of my favorite things about being a mom is that I do very few things by myself. However, sometimes it is nice to take time for me. Things that I do 'by myself' include scouts, Relief Society meetings, and getting dressed up. I love when I get to go do things, and get a little bit fancied up for a reason. I get ready and look pretty good everyday, but I always enjoy looking really good and going somewhere, even if it is a church function.
  3. Stuff Staying: Before I became a mom stuff pretty much stayed where I put it. If it was in my church bag, I knew it would be there when I needed it next. It was the same with my backpack, and my bookshelves, and my well everything. Little One does a pretty good job at leaving stuff alone, but she is a baby and has a tenancy to want everything that Mom has. So, I am grateful that when my stuff stays where I put it.
  4. Family: I have always been grateful for my family, but they are complete life savors. All of them-- my family, Jason's family, adopted family, and way extended family. They are life savors because sometimes I need to look at successful examples of living through the day to day things like endless diaper changes, crying, energy zaps, and other stuff. Also, they are always there when I need them. For example, my mom made the last week of my Christmas vacation when Jason wasn't with me so much more enjoyable because she stepped in and helped (well more like complete did) take care of Little One. I was tired and wanted so bad to enjoy the moments that I couldn't have done it with out her. Another example is Jason's Mom. She loving held and cared for Little One and helped semi-rid her of her separation anxiety. Oh it was a miracle let me tell you. To hold, rehold, help bathe, and feed a baby who for some reason thinks you are really scary is love and I am so grateful. Each family member has taken part in small miracles. If you want to know how you have helped us just call me I have one for everyone.
  5. Naps: I don't take them often but my child does. This allows me to have a hobby job, and accomplish things like sweeping the floor, reading and studying the scriptures, planning scouts and other things. Also, I love that I sometimes do take them and they are so AWESOME, because it gives me the needed energy for the rest of the day.
There are other things that Little One has made me more grateful and appreciative of but if I write them all now then what will I write. Just kidding. I actually should work on my hobby job, but I couldn't when I started, so now its time to get back to that.

  1. I couldn't agree more. I love all of those things, especially showers. Sometimes the sound of the running water blocks out someone's crying, and that is a blessing.
